Clergy

Rev. David Commander is the Rector of the Benefice of St. George, Benenden and St. Nicholas, Sandhurst.  He originally trained as an engineer and has worked as an engineering designer and consultant.  After being a curate at St. James’s Church in Tunbridge Wells he moved to Benenden in October 2013.  He and his wife, Helen, have two grown up daughters.

Reader

David Harmsworth is a (Lay) Reader, taking part in leading worship and preaching; he and his family have been worshipping at St George’s since 1976. He was a Classics teacher and Director of Studies. He ensures that we have a rota of organists and chooses the hymns. He also keeps the records for the churchyard and is working on a comprehensive interactive CD to enable wider access to them.

Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection

As Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Officer, Janet is responsible for the safety of the children and vulnerable adults with whom St George’s works. She has lived in Iden Green for more than 20 years where she enjoys walking her very lively Lakeland Terrier. She was fortunate enough to live in Rome for some years and loves Italy, Italians and their food and language.

Treasurer

Charles Trollope is retired after a career in the paper making industry. As the PCC treasurer he looks after the church’s accounts and investment funds. He is a keen birdwatcher and writes articles on birds in the parish magazine.

Churchwardens

IMG_0451 Julia was born in Iden Green and moved up to Benenden just before she started at the Primary School. Since then she has always lived locally and has recently returned to the village. She and David have seven grandchildren, half of which live locally with one attending the Primary School at present. She has a secretarial background and has only ever worked for one firm, retiring at age 60. Her main hobbies are history and gardening.

Julia is also our Church Archivist and she welcomes queries about the history of the church and its former members. Her email address is julia.collard@btinternet.com or phone 01580 241744.
